Expertise

Marcia Basichis, a partner in our firm, has had a long and successful career in the entertainment industry and brings that expertise to the Steinbrun Hughes entertainment search practice. She spent over a decade at Spelling Television, where as Senior Vice President she oversaw series, movies and miniseries for the company, including the groundbreaking series Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place, among others. She also headed Spelling Premiere Network, the company's entry into the syndicated series market. She initiated product placement partnerships and developed marketing strategies while overseeing development and production. The Hollywood Reporter named her as one of the "Power 50" women in Entertainment in 1995.

It is a great source of pride to Marcia that while at Spelling Television she oversaw the development and production of the Emmy Award winning HBO movie, And the Band Played On, a movie depicting the AIDS crisis in the United States and around the world. It was a four year process to bring this story to the screen.

Prior to her tenure at Spelling, Marcia gained network television experience as a dramatic series executive at ABC Entertainment. During the early days of the Internet she was involved in the marketing of one of the first live video streaming sites and headed business development for Rightsline, an online content licensing company, and Sophoi, a rights management company. She has served on the Executive and Awards Committee of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Marcia learned film and television business from the bottom up, starting out as a casting assistant at CBS Television Network and ultimately becoming a Producer. She was later one of the first entrants into new media and the various digital platforms for marketing and content management. Her first hand expertise in both creative and business roles enables her to effectively evaluate prospective candidates for her clients in every sector of the entertainment industry. She credits her in depth knowledge with her ability to quickly and effectively recruit the best candidate for each search assignment. She understands what each role requires.

Marcia enjoys an extensive network of entertainment executives and leverages these relationships for recommendations and references. Her network also includes many top potential candidates -- she knows who is ready to make what career move. And when.
